Our Evidence-Based Addiction Therapy

Drug addiction is classified as a mental or physiological dependence to a substance. It can be one or both.

Therapy and treatment for recovery begins the moment you admit to needing help and are ready to enter a treatment program. When you arrive at Level Up Treatment Centers in West Palm Beach, Florida, you will be assigned an addiction counselor who will work with you one-on-one in private sessions for the entirety of your stay.

Evidence-based therapies include, but are not limited to: Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Using these methods and beyond, we help the client recognize and correct the dysfunctional behavioral patterns that have overtaken them, and ultimately confront and heal the pain of the past so that they can lead a healthy, addiction-free life. Therapy sessions at Level Up West Palm Beach offer clients a safe space to dig deep and discover the complex nature behind their addiction, and to learn how to resolve and heal each particular underlying issue.

Addiction is primarily caused by various underlying, unresolved issues in one’s life or past, and is soon discovered that the client is merely using alcohol or other drugs as a coping mechanism to deal with the trauma or pain, leading to a type of dependence that one cannot break on their own, including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). In order to end the cycle of dependency one must also uncover the reason why they are choosing to numb themselves with alcohol or other drugs: One must come to understand their addiction and alcoholism and reach a spiritual solution for this spiritual dilemma.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Addiction (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based addiction therapies used to treat a wide variety of mental disorders such as as anxiety, depression, and many phobias. Here at Level Up Treatment Centers, we have honed in on using cognitive-behavioral coping skills treatment, which is a focused therapeutic approach, to helping our clients overcome addiction by introducing the same learning processes he or she used to initially develop the addiction. Currently, CBT is successfully being used to treat drug and alcohol addiction worldwide, especially when integrated as a component of an overall, comprehensive program of recovery.

What Is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?

A person who is dependent on drugs or alcohol may be unable to change his or her circumstances, but what can be changed is how they think about them. The idea is that if the person changes the way they feel and behave, they can overcome the addiction. As a method for the treatment of alcohol and drug addiction, the therapist’s goal of using CBT is to teach the individual to cope with a wide range of problems holding them back from achieving peace, including destructive and self-destructive behaviors which are likely to lead to further demoralization and relapse in the immediate future. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a type of evidence-based therapy which is based on the concept that behaviors and feelings are caused by one’s thoughts as opposed to an outside stimuli such as situations, events or people.

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

Motivational interviewing is the process of focusing on finding the desire to change within the client. This is not a thought that is created or pushed on to the client by the therapist, rather, it is developed by finding common ground, and establishing a rapport with the individual and encouraging the person to consider the real life negative consequences of their addiction. This has been used to help those struggling with addiction to truly find it within themselves to embrace their treatment program of recovery, their lives, and to finally take responsibility for making choices that lead to a healthier life.
