Why should you consider a holistic drug rehab for yourself or a loved one?

Addiction is a progressive illness. The amount used, the frequency and consistency of use, and the damage done in terms of health, well-being, and one’s relationship with others follows a predictable trajectory. There may be brief interludes where it all seems manageable, but they are almost always followed by a worsening of circumstances, further isolation and despair, and bewilderment at how all of this could have ever happened again.

Addiction, whether to alcohol, prescription pills, heroin or other opiates, or stimulants, is almost invariably too powerful for the individual to overcome on their own. In its early stages, this often isn’t apparent to the user or others, and there is little incentive to stop.

As dependency develops, the user might see signs to moderate or stop, but the payoff for continuing the drug in question (to the user) outweighs the costs, and in spite of all the consequences, the user will continue to use. Skewed perception will gain its own momentum and is usually only interrupted by an unforeseen moment of clarity where the addict suddenly gains a reasonable perspective on his or her condition, or by an external event like an intervention, arrest, or accident. Because we at Level Up West Palm Beach know that addiction is a three-fold disease—one of body, mind, and spirit—we have designed our treatment program to address each of these aspects in order to treat the person as a whole.

Does holistic drug treatment work?

Part of the addict’s skewed perspective involves a sense of personal uniqueness: Nobody knows how I’m feeling; My case is different; I just have a prescription pill problem, but I’m not a drug addict.

Underlying the superficial aspects of which drug is involved, or what the circumstances might be, are a host of feelings, beliefs, and tendencies that provide a commonality that often surprises the addict in recovery. And when these are addressed, revealed as non-unique, and healed, the addict finds a new commonality in recovery from those very issues that drove addiction in the first place. On the surface, recovery is about breaking the addiction cycle–at its core, recovery through holistic drug treatment is about healing from fear, trauma, deep psychic wounds, anger, and loneliness.

What is the holistic drug rehab model?

Because these underlying causes and conditions persist even when drugs and alcohol are removed from the addict’s system, the detox phase of treatment is inadequate to prevent the addict from relapse. To be effective, detox should be followed by a long-term holistic addiction treatment program designed not only to provide a conducive environment for recovery for the addict but also to address the problems underlying their addiction. Once the physical component of the three-fold disease has been handled through detoxification, Level Up West Palm Beach’ holistic drug rehab model will address the mental and spiritual components.

It takes a nurturing, compassionate environment to fully enable an addict to open up and allow the demons, metaphorically speaking, driving his or her addiction to be exposed. The inner exploration necessary for healing becomes a journey, often fraught with uncomfortability and even pain, but it is one filled with excitement and fulfillment for the addict and his or her entire family and friends.

Is holistic therapy really catching on in the united states?

Thanks to the internet, plus an increasing number of stories in which holistic approaches have found significant success, holistic therapy is indeed quickly catching on throughout the United States. According to the CDC, about 17.9% of Americans used non-vitamin, non-mineral dietary supplements, 8.5% used chiropractic or osteopathic manipulation, 8.4% used yoga, 6.8% used massages, 4.1% used meditation, and 3% used special diets (vegan, etc.) in 2012.

Is there any science backing the idea of holistic therapy?

Holistic therapies have been used in many Eastern countries for thousands of years, and while the statistical data is not always there to support holistic therapy, that is due largely to the fact that there is very limited scientific data that exists before the turn of the 20th century. Nevertheless, there are countless stories about holistic approaches to working in countries like China to India.

Not only that, but it is proven that the food we put into our bodies, the environment we live in, and the exercises we practice have an impact on our overall mental, physical, emotional & spiritual health.
The fields of Integrative Medicine and Functional Medicine have been growing in popularity as well, as each of these fields utilizes a more holistic approach. In addition, “Mindfulness Meditation”, which was brought to the United States by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, and is now used in hospitals around the country to help people with a variety of mental issues and physical ailments.

What are the elements of holistic therapy?

As the Western world continues to learn about holistic therapy, there are a number of elements to consider: Nutritionists can help individuals learn about the foods that are good and bad for them, meditation can help get our mental and physiological states into order, while yoga and acupuncture are useful for treating specific issues that affect the body’s health. Detox facilities are also an important place for substance abusers to be surrounded by a supportive and understanding community.
